Lent starts particularly early this year on the 14th February. Now February might be a little too early to start thinking of spring, but there might be one or two new shoots emerging from the soil……
In Kenneth Grahame’s ‘Wind in the Willows’, there is a lovely passage where mole is spring cleaning his dark and lowly little house and he gets quite fed up, throwing his brush on the floor and then climbing up through the soil. ‘Something up above was calling him imperiously’, up he climbs and he emerges in the meadow where he delights in the joy of spring (without its cleaning!).
If something up above is calling you, or if you are looking for something to get you out of starting your spring cleaning, then this years Lent course might be just the thing you need. For our course this year we will be looking at a series of beautiful images produced by the Benedictine Nuns of Turvey Abbey and corresponding Bible passages.
We will starts with Creation and look especially at Genesis 1:1-5, then Abraham and Genesis 12:1-5, on to Moses looking at the passage in Exodus 19:17-20, after that Ruth 2:2-3 and then finally David and the passage 1 Samuel 16:11-13. These images are especially bright and colourful and are extremely thought provoking. They are just the what is needed to bring the light and joy of Christ into our lives after what seems to have been (to me at least) quite a cold and dark winter.
The dates for the Lent course are:
- 21st February
- 28th February
- 7th March
- 14th March
- 21st March
From 7.30pm – 9pm in the Barn at St Giles.
