St Giles Church Matlock is running a Star Festival in the church in December, starting this weekend 2/3 December until Christmas Day. The stars remind us of the role stars played at the birth of Jesus.
We are grateful for the contributions of the 2 primary schools in the Parish, St Giles and Castleview. This year, we have also had help from residents of the Sisters of Presentation Care Centre in Matlock.
The Rector Mark Crowther-Alwyn and the Congregation invite everyone in Matlock and the surrounding area to visit the Church (on Church St above Matlock Green) to see the display of mainly hand crafted stars.
Father Mark says “ This should be a lovely way for all generations of the family to spend some more relaxed time focusing on the blessings in our lives and what Christmas is all about, during the often hectic run up to Christmas Day itself “
The Stars have been made by different church groups such as the Mothers Union, the Fellowship Group, the Choir, and the Bellringers, the children’s groups -Sunday Fun Club and monthly Godly Play -as well as the schools mentioned above and by individual members of the congregation.
There will stars made of all sorts of materials and in all sorts of sizes, many familiar from all our schooldays! Towards Christmas, the Star Display will be enhanced by traditional seasonal flower arrangements.
The Star Festival will be open on weekdays from 1000-1300, Saturdays from 1000 -1600 and Sundays from 1100-1600, and during the range of services in church over December.
We would welcome press photographs of the church decorated with these craft Stars. To arrange a suitable time, please contact Joan Link on 07500 802172.
