SUMMER BIBLE STUDY (with Saint Mark’s Gospel)
For three weeks during June, I am holding a short Bible Study course in Saint Giles Barn on the gospel of Saint Mark. This is going to be a Bible Study with a difference. Instead of this being primarily a time of discussion, the emphasis will be on listening.
We will choose three pivotal chapters of Saint Mark’s gospel and read them through carefully. We will then be invited to share a line that speaks most deeply to us and to reflect on why it means a lot to us.
This won’t primarily be a time for intellectual discussion about what the text means. Nor for showing how much we know about it or for arguing with one another. Instead, it will be a time to listen to the text and to one another and see what the Lord is saying to us through this passage. The purpose of this course will be to introduce people to the principles of reading the Bible on their own and learning to listen to its message. It is based on a method of Bible reading known as Lectio Divina.
The course will take place on the following Wednesdays at 7.30 pm:
- 6th June: Mark chapter 1 verse 21 to chapter 2 verse 12
- 13th June: Mark chapter 7 verse 24 to chapter 8 verse 26
- 20th June: Mark chapter 14 verse 1 to verse 42
Do join us. We will begin with light refreshments and plan to continue for no longer than an hour.
With every good wish from Mark Crowther-Alwyn
