On foot from Matlock
St. Giles Church is less than 10 minutes walk from the centre, up a short, steep hill. From Matlock, walk to the other end of the park, away from town, passing the play area on your left. You will come to Knowleston Place. Walk straight on, then turn right over a small bridge. Ascend the hill (Stoney Way) and you will find the church on your right.
Matlock may be accessed from the M1 or the A6.
From the North West: Follow the A6 to a roundabout where the A6 diverts right past Sainsburys. Do not turn right, but go straight across to the next roundabout in the centre of Matlock. Go straight on to join the A615 (Causeway Lane), passing the football ground on your left and Hall Leys park on your right. Continue until you reach pedestrian lights. About 20 metres on the right is Church Street (if you go past the filling station you have gone too far). Turn into Church Street …. see below
From the South West: Follow the A6 to Cromford. Turn right at the traffic lights, past Cromford Mill. Cross a bridge over the river. Ignore Willersley Castle drive in front of you. Immediately after the sharp right bend turn left up Willersley Lane. Follow the road with care, for about two miles (watch for bends, bumps, and priority traffic). The church is on your left opposite the Duke William.
From the North East: At Junction 29 of the M1, follow the A617 towards Chesterfield. When you reach the end of the dual carriageway, turn left at the roundabout, through a set of traffic lights (McDonalds and cinema on the left) and turn right at the next set of traffic lights onto the A632 towards Matlock. Continue for about 10 miles until at the end you reach a junction. Turn left and immediately right (almost straight across) onto Church Street. …. see below
From the South East: At Junction 28 of the M1, take the A38 towards Alfreton. At the second exit, turn right (over the A38) and then left onto the A615 towards Matlock. You will reach a junction with traffic lights. Turn right and then left to continue on the A615. After about 8 miles you reach Matlock. Turn left just after a Filling Station onto Church Street …. see below
… Turn into Church Street and follow the narrow road up the hill. Saint Giles is on the right. You may park on the road leading to the church or in the Barn car park. Larger parties sometimes make arrangements with the landlady of the Duke William opposite, which has a large private car park.
The nearest mainline stations are Chesterfield and Derby. There are no trains to Matlock from Chesterfield. From Derby there are regular trains into Matlock (about 0.5 hour from Derby).
The nearest Airport to Matlock is East Midlands. There is a train station at East Midlands Parkway which links with Derby. Change there for Matlock. The shuttle bus is not frequent but there is also a skyline bus that connects the airport with Derby rail station.
