Directions to Christ Church

Christ Church, Church Street, Holloway, DE4 5JP

By Car

Directions are given from the M1 J28 or the A6 at Cromford, but please use the above google map to find the best directions for you.

From the A6: Follow the A6 to Cromford. At the traffic lights at Cromford crossroads, take the turning towards Cromford station. This will be a right turn if you are coming from the south or a left turn if you are coming from the north. The road twists past Cromford Mills and over the River Derwent. Ignore the left turn past Willersley Castle and keep on the road following the river, for 2 miles in total from the A6. Take a left turn towards Lea, passing under the bridge of Smedley’s Factory at Lea Bridge. Continue up the hill for about 0.7 mile and turn sharp right towards Holloway. The church is about 0.3 miles on your left, past the school.

From the M1: At Junction 28 of the M1, take the A38 towards Alfreton. At the second exit, turn right towards Alfreton (over the A38) and then almost immediately left onto the A615 towards Matlock. Keep left at the mini roundabout and after another mile you will reach a junction with traffic lights. Turn right and then left to continue on the A615. From this point it is 3.2 miles to a left turn (Dewey Lane) signposted Lea. This is easily missed as it comes just after a bend. Stay on this road, passing through Lea, for 2.4 miles. Take the left turn into Church Street signposted to Holloway. The church is 0.3 miles on your left.

By Bus

The 141 bus runs between Matlock and Ripley. The 140 runs between Matlock and Alfreton. Both pass the church. There are bus stops outside the Cemetery and also outside Lea Primary School. The traveline website might be helpful.

By Train

The nearest stations are Cromford or Whatstandwell (on the Matlock to Derby line) and Alfreton (with connections to Nottingham, Chesterfield, Derby and London). The 140 and 141 buses stop at Alfreton and Cromford, but unfortunately the connections are not always well timed. The traveline website may be helpful. Taxis are easier to obtain at Alfreton or Matlock. From Cromford you are best to call ahead as it is more isolated.

By Air

The nearest Airport is East Midlands. There is a train station at East Midlands Parkway which links with Derby, but the shuttle bus is day-time only. A Skylink Bus also connects the airport with Derby station.
