Baptism was given to us by Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19). Through baptism we are united to Jesus and become members of his Church. Baptism is the pouring of water upon the candidate with the words:

I baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Baptism requires a confession of faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Often it is children who are baptised. The parents and godparents make the confession of faith on the child’s behalf and promise to bring them up as members of the Church. Quite often however, adults are baptised. This is normal as baptism was originally intended for adults. The adult makes the confession of faith on their own behalf and it is expected that they will make a serious attempt to live as a committed member of the church.

Parents who wish to have their child baptised will be warmly welcomed. Contact Father Mark, who will talk about baptism and the necessary arrangements. Baptisms are normally held during the Sunday morning service but sometimes they can be held at other times by special arrangement.
